The course content and training were very good. The trainer made it a relaxed and engaging process by balancing theory with practical application, which improved learning and prevented information overload. There were “lots of good 2-way discussions” throughout, and the practical sessions around locomotives and wagons were especially valuable, with participants gaining the most from this hands-on experience.

For our organisation, the course has been invaluable. With limited prior rolling stock experience, the AETs have gained both a formal qualification and, more importantly, the practical skills and knowledge required to manage and maintain rail assets. The training around inspections, braking systems, component identification, and train inspections was directly relevant to operational needs. Having used the ICAM methodology in previous investigations, I found the TLIF0045 Rail Safety Incident Investigation course to be a refreshing and practical alternative.

The course struck a good balance between theory and hands-on learning. The simulated investigation was a real highlight—it gave us the chance to apply everything in a realistic setting. The trainer was excellent: engaging, knowledgeable, and brought a lot of real-world experience to the table. I walked away with more confidence in planning and leading investigations, asking better interview questions, and pulling together solid, fact based reports. The templates and tools we were given will be genuinely useful in day-to-day work.
