Operations Track Maintenance
OVERVIEW
Scope of the project: Supply of plant and skilled workers to support operation maintenance activities.
Location: 12-month contract to maintain private sidings across WA
DESCRIPTION
RMC Rail Services was contracted to supply skilled track workers, equipment and plant. The team supported the yard asset management team in undertaking maintenance activities within the yards, terminals & sidings under a 10:4 roster.
The scope of works for the maintenance contract included:
- Re-rail & removal of rail defects.
- Replacement of timber, steel and concrete sleepers & gauge correction.
- Re-ballasting, tamping & destressing of the tracks.
- Installation of derailers.
- Replacement of turnout componentry i.e. levers, spreader bars, bolts, plates, pins, ferrules, split, pins etc.
- Inspection and cleaning of all turnouts.
- Manual routine points maintenance (clean, grease, bolt and lever adjustment)
- Minor earthworks along the network.
RMC ensured all personnel were prequalified and inducted, supplied fit-for-use plant, provided quality documentation, maintained compliance with the client’s safety principles, and completed the project injury-free—demonstrating our strong safety culture and commitment to safe delivery.
CBH – Track Construction at CBH Brookton
OVERVIEW
Scope of the project: Siding Construction.
Location: February to April – 2023

DESCRIPTION
The Brookton Project aimed to enhance CBH railway infrastructure to accommodate longer trains, improving grain transport, outloading performance, shunting, and safety. The scope included extending two rail sidings for 68 wagons and two locomotives, installing a new RH 1 in 10 turnout and buffer stop.
RMC Rail Services, subcontracted by Multiplant, undertook track construction in both brownfield and greenfield environments, ensuring minimal disruption to CBH operations.
RMC managed the construction schedule, rail corridor risks, and stakeholder interfaces, including Arc Infrastructure and CBH Site Operations. RMC was also responsible for the Rail Safety Management Plan and Construction License. The project was completed safely, ahead of schedule, and under budget.
CBH – Forrestfield Track Renewal Project
OVERVIEW
Scope of the project: Track Renewal & drainage installation.
Date: March 2023 & April 2024

DESCRIPTION
RMC Rail Services were engaged by CBH to conduct a full track renewal at their Forrestfield facility during two 10 – day shuts. The works included:
- Track renewals
- AT Welding of 60kg rail
- Laying of new sleepers (Dual Guage)
- New track formation, including sub-ballast capping
- New subsoil drainage
The project was completed safely and commissioned in accordance with the client’s requirements.
Evolve Bayswater Station Project

DESCRIPTION
ZERO RMC INJURIES ON THE LONGEST BLOCKADE IN PTA HISTORY!
RMC Rail Services were proud to provide track and civil support leading up to, and throughout, one of the most complex and constrained projects delivered in the PTA network.
Works were completed in the brownfield environment within the live rail electrified network with the offline construction and preparation works that led to the 29-day shutdown works.
The team were faced with challenges at every turn when executing the scope of works, which included:
- Mobile flash butt welding of 60kg rail
- Installation of under-sleeper pads and ballast matting
- Construction of 3.5km of plain line dual gauge track and narrow gauge turnback facility
- Installation of 4 dual gauge 1:12 turnouts. 2 turnouts were built in-situ and the other 2 were lifted with PEMs.
- Installation of 3 narrow gauge 1:12 turnouts and catch point lifted in position with two 450t and 250t cranes.
Impressively, the team did not sustain one injury! This achievement is a testament to our rail safety team and our WHS safety culture and awareness, not to mention the projects overall commitment to the works being delivered safely.
Working with our suppliers, RMC team provided in total over 100 personnel and over 60 different types of plant and equipment inclusive of 2 tamping machines and 2 ballast regulators, PEMs, 450t & 250t cranes, mobile flash butt welder and other high rail equipment.
Claremont Station Redevelopment Project

Scope of the project: Main Line track renewals and installation of 2 turnback facilities and 6 x 1 in 12 SNX turnouts

DESCRIPTION
The Claremont Station Project upgraded railway infrastructure to support a 12-train-per-hour service frequency and accommodate longer trains for the Forrestfield-Airport Link (FAL). RMC Rail Services, subcontracted by John Holland, undertook track renewal works and installed two turnback facilities, working within a brownfield environment during extended track possessions with single-line running. RMC managed the construction schedule, live rail corridor risks, and coordination across multiple disciplines, including OLE, signalling, and civil works.
- Redeveloped Claremont Station with an extended island platform and grade-separated access.
- Installed two sidings for FAL turnback services. Laid 50kg/m standard carbon rail with formation, drainage, ballast, sleepers, and fastenings.
- Constructed two 165m-long turnbacks with full track structure, shunter paths, and buffer stops.
- Installed six 1 in 12, 60kg/m swing nose crossing rail turnouts on concrete bearers and a 60kg catchpoint.
- Delivered temporary trackworks to support staged construction.
- Built a permanent on-tracking facility with vehicle access.
