Do I have to complete all 7 online modules?

A: Yes. All 7 online modules must be completed before you can enrol for the 5-day workshop to complete the learning for the 7 units.

Do I have to pay the $900 up front when I enrol?

A: Yes.

Is there a time limit for completing the online modules?

A: Yes, they must be completed within 3 months. If you do not complete them within that timeframe but still want to continue the training, you will need to re-enrol and pay the course fee again. Please contact the Student Support team if you are having any difficulties.

Can I do the online modules in my own time, or are there scheduled class times?

A: The online modules can be done at any time that suits you. They are completed by you individually.

If I withdraw from the program, do I get a refund?

A: No. The program is designed with flexibility in mind – you have up to 3 months to complete the online modules, and you are offered a number of dates for the 5 day workshop once you have completed the online modules. This should allow you to manage any interruptions and to continue your learning.

If I have completed all 7 online modules, how do I enrol for the 5 day workshop?

A: The Student Support team will confirm when you are able to enrol into the workshop. You can enrol online at the Railtrain website. The scheduled workshops and dates will be there to view and choose. Once you enrol you will receive a confirmation email with information for the workshop.

If I have completed all 7 online modules, is there a time limit for completing the 5 day workshop?

A: Yes, you need to complete the 5 day workshop within 3 months of finishing the online modules.

Can I complete the online modules using my smart phone?

A: No. There may be problems with screen content presentation. A laptop or PC is required.

Do I have to attend all 5 days of the 5 day workshop?

A: Yes, if you wish to complete the learning and assessments for the 7 units and to receive a Statement of Attainment.

English is a second language for me. How do I know if I will fully understand the training materials?

A: Before being given access to the materials, you will be required to complete an online Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment. The RTO will assess whether you will require any further support for you to successfully complete the learning.

Where will the workshop be held?

A: At the Railtrain training rooms and track work training pad, located at Unit 1, 58 Tarlton Crescent, Perth Airport.

I don’t live in Perth. Can I still enrol in this program?

A: You can, but to complete the program you will need to be able to attend in person the 5 day workshop on one of its scheduled start dates.

If learners can enrol at any time and complete the online modules any time within 36 months, when will the workshops be held?

A: There will be a rolling schedule of workshops, and they will be run to meet learner demand.

Your information mentions that some learners may be eligible for up to 50% discount on the price for the training. How can I find out if I am eligible?

A: If you are over 40 years old, you may be eligible for Skills Checkpoint Funding. Complete this form to register with Busy At Work https://skillscheck.com.au/registration/Participant/ and see if you are eligible.

Will I be guaranteed a job at the end of the training?

A: There are no guarantees of employment. Successful participants will get a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a solid grounding in the basic skills needed for track working in the rail sector.

What type of assessments are there as part of the training?

A: There are theory assessments to test your knowledge of the content, and practical assessments to test that you are competent in the physical skills required in each unit.

If I complete this training, do I have to do the Track Work II course?

A: No

Do I have to finish this course to enrol in the Track Work II course?

A: Yes, you have to successfully complete Track Work I before you can enrol in the Track Work II course.

If I’m enrolled in the workshop, can I move to another date if I am unable to attend?

A: Yes, but we ask for at least 2 working days’ notice in writing to training@railtrain.com.au; Otherwise, a reschedule fee of $75 may will be applied.

What do I need to wear for the workshops?

A: Comfortable clothes, not too loose fitting, and enclosed shoes. Wear safety boots if you have them.

Are there any pre-requisites for the training, such as medicals or inductions?

A: There are no pre-requisites, however you need a basic level of physical fitness. The workshop will involve lifting and other forms of manual handling, as well as the use of typical hand tools found in the rail sector.

How long is the qualification valid?

A: For life. However, employer expectations of suitable qualifications may change in the future.

Do you accept Amex?

A: No

Can I pay any way other than debit/credit card?

A: No

I have achieved some of these 7 units already, but I would like to go through training for the other units and get more Statements of Attainment. Is this possible, and can I get a reduced course fee?

A: Talk to Railtrain. It may be possible

I am an employer and I may have more than one candidate for this training. Can that be done?

A: Talk to Railtrain, as there may be flexibility and cost reduction options available depending on your circumstances.

What happens if I attend the workshop but do not get assessed as competent during the practical assessments?

A: As much support as possible will be given during the workshops and the assessments. However, if a participant is assessed as Not Yet Competent for all or some of the units, they will not get a Statement of Attainment for those units. All participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units in which they are assessed as Competent. Refer also to Railtrain’s Complaints and Appeals Policy on the website.

When will I receive my Statement of Attainment for the units I have successfully completed?

A: An electronic copy will be emailed to you within 10 days of completion, and a hard copy is put in the mail at the same time.

What type of learner support is available for the online modules?

A: Contact Railtrain for support with problems with the online modules or if you have any questions about the content. The theory in the units will be reviewed during the workshop.
